A 6 page paper discussing the NAACP, NUL, the Garvey movement and to a lesser extent the communist party as they sought to change the standing of the black community in the early part of the century. Two of the organizations were highly successful and remain in operation today. The fact that two of these four movements and organizations no longer exist is less amazing than the fact that two of them still do. Nearly a century after their founding, the NAACP and the NUL continue to pursue largely the same goals as those on which they were founded. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
